The cool air and dim light could not have been more welcome as the hit the forest. Ara barely noticed him pass her as she let the cool air seep under her coat and chill her skin. She took it all in for a moment, a shiver running down her spine. Then her sences snapped back, and her feet battered the ground once more. Not unlike the way she walked, her run was light and bouncy, but with suprisingly long leaps rather than short, quick steps. Max was very fast, she had to admit. But she forced her self faster - she was determined to over take him. It was a beautiful thing to wathch, the two wolves zigzagging between the trees at such a screaming speed, almost side by side as Ara gained on him.
And then they really were next to each other, two parallel bullets. But Ara found, to her suprise, she couldn't get ahead. She was able to stay by her side but she couldn't get ahead. The sound of water was filling her ears now - they must be very close. The fresh, clean scent of cold water was then all around her, and with one final push of efort, she leap forward just as the pond came in sight. A little waterfall about the height of a wolf's shoulder was off to one side, made by the river flowing over a fallen tree, and some colected rocks and boulders. River-smooth rocks lined the sides and bottom of the crystal clear, blue-green pond. Ara didn't slow down at all - she dashed straight into the water, not to stop running until her feet no longer touched the bottom. Then again, that wasn't very deep.
The water soaked through her fur as the cool air had not long before. Under the water herpelt seemed to swirl around her, the rays of light shining unevenly through the surface of the water dappling her and the rockiny ground beneath her suspended body. You couldn't get closer to flying without having wings. Ara closed her eyes for a moment and it was all she could do to wait until she resurfaced to take in a long, deep breath of pure satisfaction.
