LaurelEvery time, I look in the mirror All these lines, my face getting clearer Ohhhh, the past is gone... It went back, like Dusk to Dawn Isn't that the way...Everyone in life has to dues to pay..
I traveled quickly across his land, my eyes on the shadows and my head swimming. Would he accept me? Would he think I was a freak, like the rest? Just because I looked different, because I was different at talking, didn't mean I was different. I hunted, and I joined packs and fought honestly. What was the difference? Nothing, really. I couldn't howl, but I could yip like we did on the African Plains when the Lions were near. The yip was short but musical, like it had an African beat winding through it. I wondered if I wasn't loud enough, but I could hear my echoes across the land. When alpha got here, I would explain myself and ask to join his pack. I was scared; what if he didn't approve? Now this was a totally new smell! Arc sniffed the air and growled lowly, his lips rolled up and revealing an impressive set of wolf fangs. Was it a creature that thought they could cross his land without him knowing it? Were they trying to take hunting liberties without asking first?
Arc was off like a shot from a gun. He was nothing but a white streak darting through the Celestial Terrace, a white streak of brilliant lightning. As he ran he then picked up the sounds that the invading creature was making and it didn’t sound like a wolf, no not at all.
Once he got to the spot where the female was he stopped in his tracks, skidding as a matter of fact. Clearly he was out of breath and eyeing the female up and down. ‘What’ was she? Arctic could tell that she was scared and so he made no moves, especially forward. He simply demanded to know what she was there, softly that is. ”Are you just passing through?”

My eyes snapped over to him, a huge arctic wolf. I felt tremors go down my spine, and I felt like twitching. He was HUGE, compared to myself. I couldn't believe my eyes; I had to look away to keep from staring. "I, um, was not passing through... well.. kind of."I stuttered uselessly, and I felt ashamed for letting myself slip. And he obviously convulsed at the site of herself; I wanted to cry at the face he made. I looked down, the shame filling my body. I wasn't going to be accepted here. But the brave part of me said, "Go for it!". So I did. "I was actually, going to ask if I could join your pack?" It came out as a pitiful question, I sounded like a loser. Embarrassment and pain washed through me at the same time; it sort of made a new emotion. I called it 'embarrain.'

Arctic stood tall and proud, his eyes were forever inspecting the female newcomer. She wasn't bad looking for one that wasn't a wolf. The male chuckled inwardly and then spoke to her. "My name is Arctic Fang and I am Alpha of the Celestial Terrace pack. What is your name and why do you wish to join a wolf pack? Do you not have your own kind to pack up with?" Arc wasn't trying to be nasty. At the present he was just overly curious about her and at times he was very blunt and to the point, especially when it came to letting new ones into his pack, his pride and joy.
For now he'd allow for her to answer. He'd keep his distance in order to not give her cause to fear or quake. Really he wasn’t as scary as his appearance appeared but one could never be to overly nice, especially to one that wasn’t truly of their kind, and especially one that wanted admittance to his precious pack. First and foremost he owed it to his pack to protect them from any impending dangers. If he failed to do that then he wasn’t a good leader.

I said, feeling a bit more comfortable around 'Arctic Fang'. He was nice enough. I took a step closer to him. "My name is Laurel, I used to be called Vavřín in, Czech, I will tell you about my history later." I paused, my eyes narrowed. The word 'your own kind'.Made me shiver. I had not seen any African Wild Dogs in Penori, although I had sought out some questionable scents leading to the Light land. I didn't wish to join Light, I was more Dark than that. Integrated was perfect for a wild dog like myself. "I wish to join this pack, because I am sick of being alone, and I plan to make new friends." I broke off, and chuckled. "you wonder what I am? I am an African Wild Dog, from ,of course, Africa."I definitely was more comfortable in his presence; he was harmless enough. I watched him carefully, though, just in case something provoked him to attack.

Her reason for wanting to join seemed honest enough but still it was impossible for Arctic to read the heart, to be sure that a beast didn't have ulterior motives to wanting to gain access to a pack that, in Arc's opinion, would be a powerful one. But for now he'd give her the benefit of the doubt. He could always count on his power to take care of a problem if it crops up. For instance... He could simply kill a creature that quickly became a threat. It was that simple for him.
Arc nodded and then circled her, brushing by her fur as he did so... that's how close he came to her a time or two. He sniffed the air silently and then made a small throat noise. "Mmmhmmm... Okay. You seem honest enough. You're the first of your kind I've seen here and so I'll assume that you don't have anyplace else to go. What else have you seen here that you like thus far in Celestial Terrace?" He wanted to probe her, to see if there were any flaws in her story and conversation was the best way to go about that.

I hissed. I'll assume you have no other place to go He made it sound like I was a monster, something that was ugly and there was no other kind of me. I wanted so badly to race away from him, or bite his ears off and claw his eyes out. I had plenty of places to go. I could join another pack, I could somehow go back to Africa, I could do many things than sit here and be... what was the word... looked upon by this pompous male they called Arctic Fang.
My agitation was obvious; was I getting scarier. "This place is so lovely. And I am, too." I made sure to add that at the end. He was testing ground with me, and in my opinion, he had slipped through the earth. I was overreacting, but I was so upset....

Arc chuckled when he probing didn't push her over the edge. He circled her and then ended up facing her directly. "I never said that you were ugly Laurel. In fact I find you quite appealing to the eyes. I've never seen one of your kind before and just because you are different then me I do not look down upon you." His eyes watched her intently. His eyes watched her every move, her every facial reaction to him.
His lip curled up, not out of aggression. Arc had unique facial expressions, very expressive as a matter of fact. It all began with his eyes. They were orbs of gold and they were deep and penetrating. He looked at her and studied her until he spoke to her once more. "If you wish to join my pack then so be it but as with all of my member you'll have to prove yourself. Do you like to work hard Laurel? Are you a hard worker?" Arc liked to get to know his members. He likes to know what they long to do and what they hate.

I snorted at him; he thought he was intimidating. Well, I guess I'd better answer his questions. "I am a hard worker, Arctic Fang." I said, my eyes staring into his. "Try escaping fifty men from a boat and surviving." I looked upon him; he respected me, at least. I could make it into this pack. I could make friends and alliances. This would be a breeze. Just because I was different... it didn't mean anything any more.

Arc didn't 'think' that he was intimidating he 'knew' that he was but he never threw his size or his rank around easily, using it to make others feel inferior to him. At times though he had to be careful due to his responsibility. Others depended on him to keep them safe but he thought that he did his duty in regards to this newcomer. Ever so slightly he smiled and then welcomed her into the pack. "Well we can always use some good workers here in the Celestial Terrace. Welcome to my pack. Do you wish to see our home, where we rest?" Arctic assumed that she did. Most that wanted to join a pack traveled quite a distance to do so.
Arc began to walk, looking back to see if she was going to follow him. If she did then he'd pursue their conversation. He was patient as he sauntered back to the waterfall, keeping a wary eye out for dangers and for anything else that his attention deemed worthy of noting.

She followed instantly, knowing she'd have to explain her history now. She prepared for tears; her history was quite sad. Walking along, she waited for Arctic to make up the conversation. Before thinking, she started talking. "So, Arctic Fang, do you wish to hear my story? It's a sad one." She warned him carefully, her eyes narrowed to the ground. She walked swiftly; she had always been a fast one, especially on the plains when escaping the lion or cheetah that often attacked. Endorsed in thoughts, she could of missed Arctic's answer, or she could start blabbering again. Both of them would be embarrassing situations, so she decided to pay attention to the large alpha male.

"So, Arctic Fang, do you wish to hear my story? It's a sad one."
Arctic bobbed his head. Of course he wanted to hear about her history. He wouldn't be a good leader if he didn't. Arc longed to know everything that there was to know about each and every member of his pack. "Of course. Proceed anytime you wish Laurel."
The pair waited just outside of the cave, the waterfall hiding it from the untrained eyes.

She began, taking a deep breath. "I was born in Africa, a place unlike this one. Their were hot days and cold says, dangerous days and happy days. Lions a cheetah's, huge big cats, preyed on my family often. I loved Africa, I miss Africa. I lived in a place called Czech, which was around people, we even had our own language, I'll give you examples later." she broke off, looking down. "Men came, and soon, Wild Dogs started to disappear- slowly at first, then rapidly, until me and my sister were taken. We went aboard something called a ship that sailed over the largest body of water I have ever seen. We sailed for days and nights, and we weren't fed and we were abused often." She smiled wanly at remembering her sister biting one of the men while he was beating her. "When we got off the ship, we were to be sent to something called a Zoo, where animals were locked up for human enjoyment. I escaped after untangling from many men; I never saw my sister again. I came to Penori after moons of traveling."She sighed, looking down.

Her story was a sad one but at the same time it was very interesting to the male wolf. He nodded as she related parts of her life to him. After she was finished he really found that his heart longed for her to know that she was now safe and that if he could he would get the word out about her sister. Surely one day, by word of muzzle, they could find her. He was optimistic.
Arc then approached her and nudged her chin up with his nose. "Chin up Laurel. I'm sure that one day you will see your sister but in the mean time you can feel safe with me an my pack. My pack is still only a few but in time it will grow." Arc encircled her and then looked into her eyes reassuringly. "But fear not. I will protect you." He left it at that and then slowly moved away from her, walking toward the cave that would prove to be their sanctuary.

Laurel nodded, her eyes soft. She followed Arctic into the cave. "Arctic, do you have any other... um.." What was that word? She could only remember it in her own language. "Členové?" she shied away, knowing he wouldn't be able to understand her. The word popped into her mind suddenly. "Members. she muttered, her shoulders hunched with embarrassment.
