It was the perfect combination, humid air rising and cold air falling as summer dragged on. The perfect combination for a storm. The air felt heavy with the promise of rain, clouds laying low in the sky, burdened with the promised rain. Even the shore seemed uneasy as the tempest approached, waves choppy and foaming. It was nearly dusk when the storm broke and the clouds let loose their moisture. Winds whipped up from all around driving the waves higher and the rain pelted without mercy, biting the skin of any animal outside of sensible shelter. Of course Ocean Tempest had never quite been considered sensible. Even as the storm began to rage the grey mare was galloping toward the cliffs overlooking the shores. Her ebony mane and tail were soaked through, her skin darkened by the rain as she galloped noisily to the edge of the cliffs.
The mare let out a snort as she reached the edge of the cliffs and shied back a step as loose rocks tumbled down into the restless ocean. Tempest shook out her wet mane sending more raindrops flying from the end of her long mane. The biting rain, raging sea, growling thunder and flickering lightning did nothing to detour the dark-eyed mare as she stood firm and tall atop the cliff. Her dark gaze seemed to reflect the storm as lightning flashed and the clouds grumbled unhappily letting loose a terrifying summer storm. It was wonderful. Tempest adored this sort of weather, lived for it more then anything else.
Her mixed up heart seemed to yearn for the days when the sky went dark and Mother Nature let loose her rage. Perhaps it was because Ocean Tempest carried so much of her own rage that she adored nature's more angry displays but all she knew was it made her feel like she belonged. The winds were wild and uncatchable. It made her feel right at home in the dark and wet, the wild and frightening. Her twin, Raindance, had always hated storms for their noise but loved them because Tempest was named for them. It was as simple as that, Tempest's name that had driven away Raindance's fear of storms. Perhaps it was because of Rainy that Tempest loved the rain but she didn't dwell on the thought.
Raindance was dead now and she was alone atop a cliff looking out at a perfectly wild storm. Rearing back on her hind legs and boxing the air with her front hooves, Tempest let out a shrieking neigh that was lost in a crack of thunder. Dropping back to all fours, Tempest watched the storm, unaware that she wasn't quite as alone as she had thought.

Calypso had known a mare named White Squall, once. A bit of a misleading name - the thoroughbred had been as black as Calypso's own heart. And afraid of thunder, at that. She'd been a bit of a drip, really, but what could you expect from a racehorse? Just plain dumb. All of them.
Dumb... like her, being out here. She might be named for a daughter of the Sea God, Poseidon, but she hated water. In any form. But every so often, she needed to get out of Penori. Away from the things presing on her brain... The rain did kind of help to clear her head, though. Guess it's good for something.
Somebeast shrieked up there, somewhere above her, nearly drowned out by the thunder. So she wasn't completely alone, then... "Show yourself, horse!" she yelled, pushing her voice above the storm. If it should turn out to be her father, she was well prepared to either attack or flee. Calypso just couldn't deal with him today. And if it were Joker... she didn't know exactly what she'd do. She pricked her ears, awaiting the response.

The ash-colored mare tossed her head as something broke over the sounds of the storm. Looking away from the raging ocean, Tempest's dark eyes flicked over the beach which for once was empty of other equines or canines. For that, Tempest was glad but she was almost certain she had heard horse hooves beating on stone. Flicking her ears, Tempest listened. Attuned to the rhythm of ocean and storm, Tempest for once tuned it out to listen to anything else that didn't fit in this perfectly rainy afternoon. Now, being such a loner, Ocean Tempest counted horse hooves among the things that didn't belong around her. Along with horse hooves Tempest counted a voice calling out a challenge for farther down the slope that led up to the cliffs overlooking the Charmed Shoreline.
With a snort of dislike, Tempest debated on whether or not to ignore the call and simply let the other wander away ignorant of her existence. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to the imagination to think her call had been simply a wind off the waters. Turning her head, Tempest sent raindrops flying from her mane and face at the sharp movement, her dark eyes once more looking out at the storm-darkened horizon. The sounds of the storm returned and Tempest felt herself relaxing. It was wonderful to watch the chaos created by a good storm. Storms also put Tempest in a fairly reasonable mood which to some is scary and others simply intimidating.
Whisking her head high, Tempest turned and walked along the cliff edge until she could look down at the source of the voice. Behind her, lightning flashed as if trying to split the sky in two. Ocean Tempest rested her dark-blue gaze upon another mare though the coloration was hard to make out in the darkness of the storm. Tempest arched her neck, letting raindrops drip from her ebony mane, flicking her dark banner. "What do you want stranger?" Tempest snapped, raising her voice as thunder growled.
Standing upon the cliffs, Tempest looked like she was made for the storm. The wind tugged her dark mane and tail, rain streaking down her flanks and her dark blue eyes flashing with the lightning, voice growling like the thunder.

She snorted, blowing the rivulets of salty rain from her nostrils. The water was something she hadn't felt for a while - the northern highlands that she called home were too cold. Of course, it being summer now, it would be getting significantly wetter.
A call echoed back through the storm, and the speaker was certainly female. The dark mare didn't know any other mares here, yet, but this one didn't exactly sound friendly. Calypso wasn't in a particularily good mood, either, but she was grateful that she didn't have to deal with either Joker or Dula for a little while.
She paused. What did she want? Not much, really, and nothing with this mare in particular. "To spend some time with my thoughts!" she bellowed, well aware that the wetness on her face wasn't entirely due to the rain. She mentally beat herself for letting herself cry again, especially over some dumb old stallion. She didn't need him! "And to be alone, but I wouldn't object to a companion!" she added, completely unsure of why she had added the last part. She didn't take it back, however.
