Hooves thudded steadily against the softening ground, powerful long legs and flexing muscles carrying an equine from the trees. The land sloped downward, the ground growing softer under hoof as it shifted from mossy soil to powdery white sand. Each hoofbeat became softer as the stag galloped upon the fine sand, puffs of the particles flaring up in the wake of his sharp daggers. Black tresses were tugged back from his well-muscled neck by the playful summer breeze, ebony banner lashing back and forth behind his powerful haunches. Long black legs flashed as he galloped, his stride sure and strong like no injury had ever befallen him.
With his knee no longer swollen and painful, Blue Moon moved with the grace and speed given to him by his thoroughbred mother but also with the power of his mustang father. Nostrils flared, taking in the sea salt coming in from the ocean. Swerving out of the sand, the handsome blue roan cantered through the low rolling waves. Water rushed around his long legs though not rising even to his knee. Moon's hooves made sharp splashes in the rolling waves but he reveled in the sound, the sound of everything.
It had taken a while to get out of the marshy, foggy swamp he'd wandered in and found Metallic Dream. Even after escaping it for the sunlit world beyond, Moon had been bound by a wounded knee to remain still and move slowly and carefully. Now however, this was Blue Moon's first real test of his strength and it felt good! Onyx eyes bright like polished stones, muscles sliding smoothly under his roan pelt and confidence all around him, Moon looked like the king of the world as he galloped in the waves. Oh how he'd missed the ease of motion, the beauty of it, the sheer freedom in it. His heart fluttered like butterfly wings in his chest as he veered out of the waves, galloping to the top of a sand dune. At the top the stag reared up onto his hind legs, boxing the air with his front legs and letting out a shrieking neigh before he dropped back to all fours. Dark optics turned to the rolling waves, watching while he stood atop the dune, his black banner tugged by the wind, his eyes bright with content, heart beating from the run and lighter then it had been in days.

~`~Metallic Dream~`~
It seemed that Dream would follow the stag where ever he went now. She allowed him to take the lead in their run, their run from the marsh and the thick air that seemed to loom heavily there. Dream had to admit that her lungs felt much better now that she was breathing in the much thinner and much fresher air as she ran in Moon's wake. It felt wonderful!
Her gallop was steady. She was a fine specimen of a mare as was evident by her sleek build and her well toned muscles. Her form was displayed even further when she ran. Proudly her banner waved behind her. Her tail was tall and rather prissy looking. Indeed she was all femme and clearly honored to be so. What added to her appearance was her odd colors, which at this moment didn't seem to faze her in the least.
Softly she nickered, letting the male know that she was still behind him as he ran, heading toward the peak of a rather tall sand dune. Of course Metallic would join him. Eagerly she reared up and boxed the air as he did, giggling loudly as she got her first taste of what true freedom really was.
Once their antics were finished she dropped to all fours. Her breath was panting but obviously she was oh so happy. Never before had she felt such an exhilarating feeling. Moon was right. Dream now understood why he loved being free of a herd. The femme could live out the rest of her days like this and happily she would instill that in her children.
Still panting the mare looked up at the proud male. He was simply breath taking and truthfully Dream couldn't get enough of looking at him. "So this is what freedom feels like Moon. You were right! I love it and I can see why you love it so much! Will you run with me like that every single day for the rest of my life Moon?" What was she saying? What was she asking? Was she asking him to stay with her forever? What would he say in return? The last thing that the mare wanted to do was to take away his sense of being free. The mare knew how it felt to felt boxed in and stifled.

Whisking his ebony tail in a carefree manner, Blue Moon swung his handsomely carved crown to look at the mare standing at his side. Arching his neck so he could get a good look at his unusually toned companion, Moon let out a soft nicker, tossing his muzzle just a little, onyx optics bright with the thrill of life and underlaying affection for the fem. As his weight shifted on delicate but powerful limbs, Blue Moon blew softly through his lips and bobbed his elegant head. "Until my legs refuse to run" Moon promised with a smile on his dark lips as he studied his recent but lifelong companion. Her violet and silver tones made her stand out strongly against the stormy blue-grey and black of his own pelt but Moon didn't mind; he'd never been one for coordinating or fitting in anyway.
A mischievous glint rose up in Moon's expressive optics, glittering like a candle's flame during a windy night. One of his daggers struck the sand with a soft thumping sound as Moon pawed at the soft sand underhoof, tossing his head again to shoo his forelock from his eyes and reveal the smudged star on his dark visage. Heart still aflutter from his run, Moon felt his blood thrumming in his veins making him feel warm and restless, tingly from the inside out and unable to keep still whether it was swishing his tail or moving his hooves. This was Moon outside of the swamps, always in motion in some way, practically vibrating with life and the need to know and see the things that everybody deemed mere legends.
"This is freedom, Dream" Moon neighed, his voice bright and his spirits soaring higher then the birds. "And you wondered why I never needed anything more?"
With a laugh and a playful smirk, Moon shifted his weight back on his haunches and shot forward like a bullet from a gun. Sand splayed out on either side as the stallion skidded away down the dune toward the waters of the ocean where the waves lapped at the sand lazily. His hooves slapped against the water and wet sand as he plunged into the cool saltwater. Waves surged around his long legs as he wheeled in the shallows, flinging his front legs up in a half rear before coming to all fours facing Metallic Dream, an invitation in his posture, play in his eyes. His head was flung high, narrow thoroughbred body angled toward her and a beckoning neigh on the seaside breeze.

~`~Metallic Dream~`~
The femme snickered but ever more so when Moon shot away from her, making his way down the dune's opposite side. Dream watched him. She had never seen a male that intrigued her so much as him. Everything captured her fullest attention. The way that he moved, the way that his muscles flexed and bulged as he ran and exerted himself. Truly being a free horse caused him to be even more in shape than any horse that Dream has ever seen before.
He finally reached the bottom. He was teasing her terribly. He was taunting her with his playful mannerism. For a few moments the female just stood on top of the large sand mound so that she could watch him. There was no better view then this, the most beautiful scenery that the mare had ever seen.
After a while something stirred within her body. It felt like a thrilling itch. It was a feeling that surged through her entire frame. It was an urging to run, to feel the wind running it's fingers through her mane and tail playfully but yet oh so seductively. The feeling of nature touching her body, mind and soul with it's invisible qualities began to become an addiction to her and so she ran. Dream ran to catch up with Moon.
It took quite a while for the mare to finally catch up with him. The sand beneath her pounding hoofs felt wonderful, her metal shoes having already taken their leave, which felt tantalizing as the sand buffed her feet smooth. Nature had everything that they needed. It even produced a male that Dream could fall in love with. Nothing could be more exhilarating then this. Well nothing aside from the feeling that she got when physically near to Moon.
So many new feelings... So much time to enjoy them in.

Hooves thudding on the sand, water splashing around his black-stockinged legs, Blue Moon wheeled in the shallows to look for his oddly colored beloved. Onyx eyes shining with life found the unusual creature that was his companion, her violet pelt standing out against the pale dunes and rolling foam-topped waves. Moon flung his head back, black mane flaring for a moment like an ink stain on the sky before settling back against his stormy neck. Neat thoroughbred hooves pranced in place, splashing in the water and leaving prints in the sand under-hoof. Swishing his tail, Moon let out a beckoning nicker as he watched Metallic Dream begin to descend the dune and come cantering his way. He flung his front hooves high in a playful half rear, beckoning her with his posture.
Moon's heart swelled happily as he watched Metallic come toward him. Her eyes were bright and he could see she now understood his deep content to be without a herd and roam alone or with those he loved. Blue Moon liked the thunder of the waves, the smell of salt on the wind and anything about nature. It felt like it embraced him and he in turn felt at home and welcome. Herds didn't like his headstrong nature and impatience but nature was eternally patient even if he wasn't, welcoming him every time like a prodigal son.
Whinnying to Metallic, Moon turned and began to canter along the beach with shallow waves rising up around his hooves. He could feel Metallic drawing close and out of the corner of his eye saw her coming up alongside him and snorted happily. His limbs danced over the ground carrying him along beside Metallic and at that moment, Moon felt completely content.
Putting on a burst of speed the crossbred stallion propelled himself forward relying on thoroughbred speed and mustang power to get him ahead of his quarter horse love. Swinging wide, Moon cantered back toward the dunes though he didn't go far, only to the first low rises of sand before he turned to face the sea. More importantly however, the roan stag faced Metallic, standing still once more and looking like the prince of the seas. His dark legs, black mane, tail and face accented his elegant blue roan coloring, the lonely star half hidden by his forelock, dark eyes gleaming like polished onyx. Arching his neck, Moon blew through his lips, watching Metallic with a suddenly intent expression.

~`~Metallic Dream~`~
This was fun! This was what true freedom felt like!
Indeed there were many reasons why Moon longed to be free and some of them were rubbing off on the mare but for now the biggest reasons for her were because she was always penned up her entire life and now to be with Moon. To be by his side as they ran was the most wonderful feeling that she's ever been awarded with in life. Other reasons would surely follow and attach themselves to her. This was all that she needed for right now.
Dream followed him and at times was side by side with him. She looked off into the distance and even from time to time what was closest to her, especially Moon. Her mane and tail flagged about in her wake. She was a rather stunning specimen of a female and what made her even more noticeable was her odd colors, including the orbs in which glance around, gathering any and all information that they could.
Soon the male turned, slowly his pattern became an arch and he was headed back from which they came. Dream followed and then slowed down to a stop so that eventually she was simply walking toward the male. Slightly her head bobbed up and down, her mane so elegantly being captured by the ocean's soft breeze. Loudly she snorted from her nose and then even louder she awarded him with a happy whinny.
Softly she chuckled once she was near to him, near enough for him to hear her soft voice. "Running makes me tired. I'm out of shape I guess from being stall bound for so long. I'll get use to it though. It feels so good to feel my muscles burn from the exertion. It's a good hurt." Her lips widened with a smile as she nuzzled his neck with her soft nose. Indeed there were things that they 'should' talk about but Dream wished for him to bring them up since she was still uncertain of how he felt.

Blue Moon watched as Metallic Dream neared him, her hooves making a steady rhythmic beat on the sand, her voice music to his ears. Still the stag kept a careful gaze on her, remembering she had once been a human mount and perhaps so much activity wasn't good for her so soon after her leg had recently been hurt. His leg had also suffered injury but Blue Moon was known to push the limits of his body, so he didn't worry so much about his own physical health. Metallic's words appeased his worries for the moment and he allowed a smile to show on his dark maw. Pawing the sand, Moon watched as his oddly colored love faced him.
"You'll get used to it" Moon assured her, bumping his black nose affectionately against her violet one. "I'm just glad you like it."
Brushing his muzzle against Metallic's neck, Moon let his mind wander a little bit. He hadn't forgotten the things she had told him when they'd escaped from Deacon and been recovering in the swamp. Part of him was still troubled and the other part was leaping around with happiness like a love-struck filly. At the moment, Moon wasn't exactly sure which one was more dominant. He remembered that Metallic had been hopeful for a family despite their relative youth. It half troubled him because he wasn't overly confident at the idea of being a good father much less protecting not only Metallic but then a foal as well. At the thought his eyes darkened and his tail swished slowly, mind calculating the devastation if he failed for either mother or foal.
The other half of him was shying from the idea because his own father hadn't exactly been a good one and therefore Moon had no real model to follow. He knew relatively well what fathers should do but the details were sketchy. Rely on instinct? Maybe but Moon didn't know if he wanted to chance it. Laying his ears back, Moon stared at the horizon.
"Metallic" he began slowly, "you mentioned something about...family in the swamp. Are you sure that's something you'd want now?"

Metallic forever sensed hesitation within Moon. She wasn't sure if it was because of her or not. Surely this was all new to him as well. For a certainty she knew that this 'was' all new to her but she loved feeling all of these new and foreign things. Moon however seemed to have experienced more in his life then she. Could this be why he still seemed to be so conflicted?
The mare would do her best to console him....
Dream moved closer to him, her eyes gazing into his as she spoke softly. "A family 'is' what I want... yes." Her odd orbs took a moment to gaze out and into the horizon. It was simply breath taking but soon her attention was pulled back to Moon. Did this mean that they were 'together'? His questions were on a more personal level then just friends would speak of.
The mare blew from her nose, the run having cleared out her lungs, but then she spoke again. "Why do you ask me this Moon?" As a sign of confusion the mare pawed at the ground and then snorted. "Do such personal questions mean that we are mates?" Softly she smiled at him. Surely he would have much to say to her in return.

Moon had to fight the urge to shy away from the term "mates". The word wasn't one he was used to, but then again with Metallic Dream came a lot of things he wasn't used to. She wanted to be with him, almost no one ever did. She was violet, silver and gold. He'd never seen another mare like her and probably never would. She was raised by humans but he could see the hunger for freedom in her mismatched eyes. She was young but wise, sweet but strong. Overall she was very confusion for Blue Moon. Metallic didn't chide him for his constant motion or his restless eyes, never made a real demand of him, at least, not anything that was unreasonable. Swinging his elegant head to look at the violet femmora, Blue Moon searched her unusual eyes, shifting his weight slightly on his long legs.
Metallic said she wanted a dream, had shown interest in a herd. The least she deserved after all her suffering was somebody that could give her what she wanted, the feeling of being safe and loved with a family that loved her. Blue Moon had been robbed of that in more ways then one between a father and herd that didn't understand him and an untimely death that left him with a sickening fear of wolves. Metallic didn't deserve what he had gotten when she gave him what he'd needed for years. Swallowing his fear, the stag arched his neck, brushing his black muzzle against Metallic's. It may not be much he was able to give her, just the open territories and his protection but she would have it.
"If you'll have me" Moon nickered finally, smiling softly. "There's not much I can give but, the world is yours now Metallic, it's whatever you want from it whether that's just me or someday a herd."
The shores seemed far away, the waves crashing like distant thunder but so faint to his ears that Moon almost forgot where they were. His harks were focused on Metallic's answer, though in his heart he already knew it. She'd told him once but just once more wouldn't hurt either of them. He kept his onyx gaze on his unusual companion, searching her gaze, nares taking in her scent and for once letting himself stand still like a statue carved from blue stone.

This was it then! It's official! They are a couple! Nothing could make Dream more happy. She was so happy that she chuckled and then a loud whinny followed.
"If you'll have me" Moon nickered finally, smiling softly. "There's not much I can give but, the world is yours now Metallic, it's whatever you want from it whether that's just me or someday a herd."
It took all that the femme could do to restrain herself. Her satisfaction could be heard in her voice as she answered Moon. "Blue Moon... You are my herd now. I want nothing more than that. Now I'll hear no more talk about me joining another herd. We can make our own herd. Would you like that Moon?" Metallic stepped forward and nuzzled his neck with her nose, her tail flagging happily behind her, the wind capturing her mane just perfectly, making her look like a vision from heaven.

Blue Moon nickered softly and shook his head in amusement at Metallic's enthusiasm. She seemed more then ready to just be with him which he found amazing but it almost killed him that she was so ready to give up her innocence and be a mother. Still, maybe that was the way a lot of mares were? Starnile had seemed more then happy when he'd been around and maybe if he had hung around she'd be standing next to him now instead of Metallic, holding the keys to his heart or maybe not. He would never know and really didn't want to. He was content with Metallic's affections but still amused at their intensity. His amusement wasn't meant to be taken cruelly, just that he was constantly in wonder of his beloved mare.
Angling his head down slightly, Moon looked Metallic in the eye. "I would like that" he neighed at last, bobbing his head and smiling.
With his heart now lighter with their worries set aside and plans for the future lurking ahead, Moon couldn't keep still much longer. His neat hooves danced in the sand, ebony tail swishing as the sea breeze combed through his onyx mane. Moon forced himself to remain still, remembering what Metallic had said about not being quite up to snuff with a constantly moving, always wild stallion. He didn't want to have her go hurting herself trying to keep up with him just because he was antsy and impatient enough for two horses.
So, instead of taking off at a gallop like in wanted, Moon remained still beside Metallic. Though her presence could settle a great deal of his inner wild mustang, Moon still suffered enough restlessness to make him jittery even with her around. He wanted to run, challenge the wind, fight the waves and soar with the eagles. With Metallic, he felt like he could. Still, Moon had some self-control.
Settling himself for simply resting his muzzle lightly on Metallic's violet back, just behind her withers, Moon blew a sigh through his nostrils, black nares flaring with the passage of air. From time to time his hooves shifted in the sand. He looked like a puppy waiting his owner's command to go play but luckily for Metallic, he was an obedient puppy...for the most part.

~`~Metallic Dream~`~
Dream's entire existence was burning with happiness. It felt as good, if not even more wonderful, then sitting next to a hot camp fire on the coldest day of winter. The heat of their affection warmed her through and through until the mare was as content as she's ever been.
The femme knew that the male longed to take off and run. She knew this because of the expression in his face and the occasional muscle twitch that was evident to her odd colored cisterns. It amused Metallic greatly. She could feel that power that she held, the power to hold him here even when he felt the need to dash. Dream was not that cruel. Even though she found that she herself was tired she could not deny him what he loved the most... to run and to feel the wind in his mane and tail. Dream nickered and then threw her head in the direction of the ocean. "Go... Run... It's what your heart is yearning for. I'll wait here. It would be pleasure for my eyes to watch you just as long as you return to me." She nickered again.
Dream watched him for a reaction. She waited for a second or two until she longed to display her approval. Gallantly she drew up on her back hind-feet, clicking the hooves together as she came down and then back up again. It felt so good to not have those metal shoes on any longer!

Ah how lucky Moon was to have a merciful mate! Arching his neck the tall blue roan stag nuzzled his black nose against Metallic's violet neck in silent thanks. Barely a month with Metallic Dream and he was whipped to her commands in a way no human could have ever managed to tame him. Like a dog freed from his leash, Blue Moon took off away from Metallic. His hooves kicked up a miniature sandstorm behind him as his powerful legs carried him away from the rolling sand dunes toward the salty ocean waters. Lazy waves rolled up to greet him topped with foam, curling around his long black-stockinged legs as he galloped into the waters. Muscles flexed under his stormy roan coat, his lithe thoroughbred breeding brought out as his coat was dampened by sea mist and saltwater, the power of a mustang obvious in his strong and sure-footed gallop as he made his way through the shallows.
No matter the strength of the undertow, Blue Moon was sure nothing could knock him down now. With Metallic Dream not far away and forever by his side, Moon felt like the most powerful stallion in the world and now that his muscles burned subtly with use, he felt his blood pumping hot in his veins, the waves rolling around his legs as he galloped down the beach. The wind tugged his mane back from his powerful neck, ebony banner whipping behind him as he ran.
Swerving to the beach again, Moon braked hard, hind legs digging into the wet sand. His front legs flung skyward and bodice rising off the ground. Daggers boxed the air as a deep neigh rang loud and clear from the black-faced stag. It was a challenge to nature, daring it to try and knock him down. Of course no mysterious force of nature rose up to defeat the stallion as he dropped back to all fours and set off at a fast gallop back toward Metallic.
Reaching the dune the violet mare was standing on again, Moon tossed his head and nickered before dropping down and rolling onto his back and pausing for a moment before rolling onto his side, looking up lazily at Metallic. His ebony mane and tail was spread out over the sand like a spilled ink bottle, onyx optics bright, nostrils flared as he breathed, simply content with watching his mate.

~`~Metallic Dream~`~
Watching her mate run like the wind Metallic basked in the knowledge of knowing that she had won the heart of the best stallion in Penori. He too had her heart, whether he realized how precious that was or not Dream didn't care. She felt the electricity that was passed between them when ever they were near to each other and that feeling was more then enough to make her happy.
Soon he was near to her once more. Quite frankly she could stand and watch him all day. For a male he had a grace that could not be equaled by another and Metallic had seen many trophy winners in her days, coming and going from the barn, heads held high and legs proud as they pranced passed her stall as if to say... 'Look at me!'. Indeed in Dream's eyes there was no other horse that was finer then Moon and he was all hers.
Moon laid down and Metallic joined him. She nestled her frame next to him and then blew softly from her nose. What a perfect day to take an afternoon nap. Tenderly she placed her head on the ground and closed her eyes, swimming in the feeling of her mate being so physically near until she fell fast asleep.
